In her Prognostics lecture Rózsa Farkas discussed the practicalities of creating self-organised spaces in London, with specific focus on the structure of the Arcadia Missa gallery. Within an organisation there is a context outside of the gallery – that is the location it sits in and the audiences it brings. Through looking at a short history of art spaces in her local area, Farkas will discuss the impact of her gallery within the neighbourhood of Peckham, South East London, in regard to gentrification and present some of the problems and strategies she has faced in fighting against it. Rózsa Farkas is the founder and director of Arcadia Missa gallery and publishers, London. She has written for various publications and curated and co-curated exhibitions and events outside Arcadia Missa at spaces such as the ICA London, David Roberts Art Foundation, South London Gallery, Astrup Fearnley Museet and Tank.TV amongst others.
