Works from Saastamoinen Foundation’s art collection were first hung at EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art in October 2006, when the museum opened to the public.
The opening exhibition was designed by Professor Leena Peltola and Päivi Karttunen MA. The idea was to exhibit as broad and diverse cross-section as possible from the collection, which had long been in storage. A total around 500 works were exhibited. A wide selection of works from the Foundation’s historical collection from the 1910s was also featured in a salon-type hanging. The exhibition received much positive feedback for, among other things, showing the historical continuity of Finnish art to the present day, something which in 2006 could not be seen in other museums in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area.
