The Helsinki residency promotes international networking by offering artists and researchers the opportunity to network with local artists and scholars and explore the Finnish art and research scene. The apartment accommodates foreign artists or curators visiting Finland, or can be used as a retreat-like setting for Finnish and foreign artists collaborating on joint international projects. It can also be used for accommodating guests on institutional visits or participants in exchange programmes.

The apartment

The 80 m2 apartment is located on Pieni Roobertinkatu in the heart of Helsinki. The two-bedroom apartment has a kitchen, bathroom and separate toilet. The apartment is fully equipped with presentation technology, wi-fi, and laundry appliances.

How to apply

All Saastamoinen-supported university programmes and our partners in art and science projects are eligible to apply. Please note that individual guests may not apply on behalf of themselves. Applications are invited for projects of 1-3 months in duration, and for shorter expert visits of 1-4 weeks (e.g. curators, visiting lecturers). Preference will be given to new projects that promote internationalisation.

In addition, any organisation or work group with an official business ID (‘Y-tunnus’) is welcome to apply for a stay at the Helsinki residency on behalf of its guest. Applications must be accompanied by an official invitation from the partner institution, a project description, a practical logistics plan/ proposal for residency services, the CV(s) of the invitee(s) and a description of the partnership. Stays of less than one month in duration can be applied for on a rolling basis.

The residency is closed through July during the summer holidays.
