RARE DOCS: My Little Phone follows the everyday lives of two young people from Pirkanmaa, Enni and Mette, and examines whether there is life without a smartphone?
RARE Media also organizes school tours consisting of RARE DOCS film screenings and workshops.
The daily life of two young people from the perspective of a smartphone
How does phone use manifest in everyday life, for example, regarding friends, hobbies, and well-being? Mette has experienced a major change in her phone usage last autumn, while Enni has noticed her relationship with social media changing gradually.
The documentary’s third main character, a pony scrolling through its phone, has fallen down the rabbit hole while studying young people’s phone use.
The film aims to encourage the viewer to reflect on their own relationship with smartphone use with a gentle approach.
The film was released on RARE Media’s YouTube channel on Friday 10.4.2026, accompanied by an impact campaign aiming to increase self-reflection among young people regarding their smartphone use. In the impact campaign, a peaceful space is being built in schools where students can enjoy their break without a phone.
The documentary film is produced by RARE Media. The movie poster was designed by Tzor Edery ja Kiia Tailo.
It is funded by the foundation Brita Maria Renlunds minne sr. and Saastamoinen Foundation.
The film’s duration is approximately 25 min. The film’s language is Finnish, with subtitles in Swedish and English. The film is freely available to watch on Youtube.
