Saastamoinen Foundation supports the Spring Idea Competition where young people develop ideas that can change the world.

Organized for the third time this spring, the competition invited 15–19-year-olds to develop ideas to improve the world in teams of 3–5 people. Spring inspired thousands of young people to brainstorm both at school and in their free time. In total, 133 teams entered the competition with their ideas. From these, the Spring jury selected 12 of the most promising teams to develop their ideas further during the Spring Weekend, and six teams made it to the final.

The winners were chosen through a public vote open to all young people under the age of 20. Voting took place from April 23 to May 5, 2025, and over 3,300 votes were cast. The three teams receiving the most votes were declared the winners.

The winners of the 2025 Spring Idea Competition, organized by the Children and Youth Foundation, are building a more sustainable future with domestic biogas, eco-friendly reflectors, and second-hand fashion. The 2025 winners are:

BioLöBö
Domestic biogas for road transport needs
Nicklas, Elias, Eetu, and Markus / Janakkala

Fish Reflectors
Eco-friendly reflectors made from fish skin and scales
Léna, Teea, Klaara, Hilda, and Karo / Helsinki–Espoo

ThriftySwipe
A fashion app that helps users find second-hand clothing that matches their style
Serra, Mikaela, and Venice / Tampere

The grand prize includes a summer job and a study trip to Lisbon, Portugal, where the young people will continue developing their ideas.

“The standard in this year’s Spring final was very high, and all six finalist ideas were promising. The tight race was reflected in the even distribution of votes. The top three teams received 58% of the total votes, making it a close contest,” said Spring program manager Ilari Äijälä.

The idea competition, organized by the Children and Youth Foundation, is funded by Saastamoinen Foundation, UPM, Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation, and the Foundation for Private Entrepreneurs. The competition strengthens young people’s belief in the future and their sense of agency.
