Between the dog and the wolf / Enter Chien et loup was a themed installation from the Saastamoinen Foundation Art Collection and, on view from November 2008 until October 2011. The installation was designed by visual artist and Finlandia Prize-winning author Hannu Väisänen, as well as Päivi Karttunen and Hannele Grönlund.

The title is taken from a French expression: “entre chien et loup”. It refers to the twilight hour, when the eye struggles to distinguish forms as daylight gives way to evening darkness. It is up to the viewer to discover how this moment is reflected in the gallery space.

The installation featured 70 works representing all artistic mediums in Saastamoinen Foundation collection, from ceramics to video art. Nearly all of the works were exhibited at EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art for the first time. The exhibition also included a site-specific painting by Hannu Väisänen, named after the days it was painted.
