The exhibition presents updates to the Saastamoinen Foundation Art Collection, exploring the theme of dialogue through both the visual language of art and its emotive content. The latest installation in Dialoguesexhibition highlights pieces that explore human encounters and complex relationships from diverse perspectives. Dialogues also appear in the forms, colors, and materials of the works.

The new section has been curated by Saastamoinen Foundation Art Committee experts Päivi Karttunen, Jani Ruscica, and Anna Tuori, alongside EMMA’s Laura Eweis and Tero Hytönen. The selection of works highlights the diversity of one of Finland’s most significant art collections. This installation encourages visitors to contemplate the artworks in relation to each other and create various juxtapositions between them, offering a platform for continuous and evolving dialogue between the pieces.

Dialogues is updated with works by artists Monira Al Qadiri, Ruth Asawa, Louise Bourgeois, Torsten Andersson, Lin Da, Ida Ekblad, Nan Goldin, Heidi Hahn, Samia Halaby, Barbara Kasten, Jonna Kina, Harriet Korman, Sinikka Kurkinen, Paulina Ołowska, Laura Owens, Pauno Pohjolainen, Aura Saarikoski, Dayanita Singh, Martine Syms, Eeva Tiisala, and Kaari Upson. Saastamoinen Foundation Art Collection was deposited in EMMA’s collections at the museum’s founding. Encompassing nearly 3,000 works, it is one of the most prominent collections of Finnish and international art, with new acquisitions continually added. Owned by Saastamoinen Foundation and housed at EMMA, Dialogues is the collection’s new exhibition concept, launched in November 2023. The installation is curated primarily from the foundation’s recent acquisitions and is based on the dialogue between artworks.
