Helsinki Graduate School of Economics (Helsinki GSE) is a joint economic teaching and research unit of Aalto University, Hanken School of Economics and the University of Helsinki. Its objective is to offer high-quality and innovative master’s and doctoral education with the best international researchers as well as to promote social discourse and interaction. Helsinki GSE also aims to increase the number of economics professors in Finland and reform master’s and doctoral education. Finland currently has significantly less economics professorships compared to most of the other Nordic countries, despite the heavily increased demand for economics professionals in many sectors.

Saastamoinen Foundation, together with the Wihuri Foundation, supports the Aalto University Economics of Data Science professorship, which is part of the programme. Other supporters of the Helsinki GSE programme include, for example, the Yrjö Jahnsson Foundation, VATT Institute for Economic Research, the municipalities of the Helsinki metropolitan area and the Ministry of Education and Culture.
