OBE RA Sonia Boyce is a highly awarded London-based artist and academic, who during her extensive career has been a prominent advocate for Black artists in the UK. Her works incorporate film, photography, print and sound, creating collaborative and inclusive multi-media installations that often question artistic authorship and cultural difference. In 2022, Boyce will represent the UK at the 59th Venice Biennale.
In her lecture, Boyce explores play and improvisation, which take her into the realm of disrupted expectations and unguarded reverie where one action encourages another without apparent purpose.
The lecture also discusses the process of her social art practice and the resulting artworks.
